Elvas has a great Aqueduct with 7 km and 843 arches, the largest bastion fortification in the world, whose defensive structures star-shaped and a perimeter of about 10 km are a unique testimony of the evolution of military strategy until the nineteenth century due to the struggle with Spain for the independence of Portugal in the mid-century XVII. The fortifications of Elvas are now World Heritage.

Elvas also has two excellent water levels in Alqueva and Caia reservoirs and therefore nautical occupations and fishing are attractive offers, in addition to hunting.
